Bringing Dogs into the US from Canada
As of the latest updates, here are the key requirements for bringing your dog into the United States from Canada:
- Rabies Vaccination Certificate:
- Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days prior to entry into the US.
- Puppies younger than 3 months are exempt but may face restrictions upon arrival.
- The certificate must be issued by a licensed veterinarian and include the dog's details, vaccination date, and vaccine expiration date.
- Microchip:
- While not mandatory, microchipping your pet is highly recommended. It provides an extra layer of security and proof of ownership.
- Inspection at the Border:
- Dogs may be subject to a physical inspection at the border. Make sure your pet is clean and healthy.
- Pet Food Restrictions:
- Ensure that any pet food you bring complies with US regulations. Commercially packaged pet food is usually allowed, but homemade food may face restrictions.
